Due to dense fog, six vehicles lost control on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway, resulting in several accidents.
Although no fatalities have been reported so far, at least 25 individuals sustained injuries in the incidents.
The accidents occurred near the Gorer Matha area in Mithapukur at around 7:30am on Saturday.
The involved vehicles included two passenger buses, a truck, a pickup truck and a covered van.
After the accidents, efforts were underway to remove the vehicles from the scene, according to the Bordarga Highway Police.
According to local sources and highway police, the vehicles travelling from Dhaka lost control due to the thick fog near Gorer Matha intersection on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway.
At this four-way intersection, two buses, a truck, a pickup and a covered van collided with each other.
Several vehicles' front windows were shattered and some sustained damage.
As a result, at least 25 people were injured.
Among them, several sustained severe injuries and were transported to the hospital.
Upon receiving the incident report, Bordarga Highway Police rushed to the scene, rescued the injured, and sent them to the hospital for immediate treatment.
They also began removing the vehicles from the site.
Mohammad Moniruzzaman, in-charge of Bordarga Highway Police, said: “The vehicles involved in the accident have been cleared from the site. Fortunately, no major fatalities occurred. Several injured passengers received initial treatment.”
He further explained: “The highway is frequently used by sand and earth-carrying trucks, and soil had accumulated on the road, making it slippery. Combined with the dense fog reducing visibility, it is likely that the drivers lost control and collided with each other. Police started the rescue operation immediately after the incident.”
Moniruzzaman also mentioned: “Several minor accidents have occurred on the Rangpur Highway due to dense fog. Visibility is severely reduced in many areas. Drivers and passengers have been advised to proceed cautiously with headlights on.”
He added: “On Friday, five separate accidents occurred on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Pirganj and several other locations, resulting in seven deaths.”
