Chevron Bangladesh has donated funds to the Jalalabad Disabled Rehab Centre and Hospital (commonly known as Jalalabad Rotary Hospital) to provide 57 prosthetic implants.
The donation cheque was handed over at an informal ceremony held at Chevron’s Jalalabad gas plant on Wednesday evening.
Chevron has committed a total of Tk20 lakh to this initiative.
Speaking at the event, Richard Barnett, superintendent of Chevron Bangladesh’s Jalalabad Gas Plant, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the welfare of individuals with disabilities.
He said: “The disabled are among the most marginalized in society. Chevron is dedicated to uplifting them through our social investment initiatives. We are pleased to support Jalalabad Hospital in their efforts to improve the lives of people with disabilities.”
Shoaib Ahmad Matin, chairman of Jalalabad Disabled Rehab Centre and Hospital and former managing director of Jalalabad Gas, highlighted the hospital’s contributions.
“Established in 1996, this 40-bed hospital provides physiotherapy services to around 60 patients daily. Chevron’s donation will enable us to fit 57 people with artificial limbs. Our hospital operates on a ‘no loss, no profit’ principle,” he said.
The project is being implemented with the assistance of the Smile Project, an initiative of Swiss Contact, and is supported financially by Chevron.
