‘Love Share BD US’ provides financial assistance to Rashid, who sold his child after being shot

  • Rashid's family receives Tk50,000 in financial assistance
  • His 3-day-old new-born was sold for just Tk25,000 to cover his medical expenses

‘Love Share BD US’ has provided financial assistance to labourer Abur Rashid, hailing from Tetulia in Panchagarh, who sold his new-born child for his treatment after being injured receiving bullet during the anti-discrimination student movement.

When he was admitted to Dinajpur Medical College, his wife, Ratna Begum, sold their 3-day-old new-born for just Tk25,000 to cover his medical expenses.

After the incident became public, the child was returned.

Now, Rashid's family has received Tk50,000 in financial assistance from the US-based charity organization ‘Love Share BD US.’

On Monday, at a program in the Tetulia Upazila Parishad auditorium, the UNO Md Fazle Rabbi handed over the cash to labourer Rashid, presided over by the coordinator of the volunteer organization Jagrata Tetulia Md Ferdous Alam Liton.

Present at the event were Hazrat Ali, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Tetulia branch; co-coordinator Obaidul Haque; former president of the Upazila Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Khandakar Abu Saleh Ibrahim Imran; convener of the Upazila Chhatra Dal, Sabuj Al Payel; members of Jagrata Tetulia including Tahidul Haque, Masud Rana, Md. Kabir Hossain, journalist Mobarak Hossain, Ahsan Habib, among others.

Recently, journalist Mushfiqul Fazl Ansari, assistant press secretary to former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and a regular briefer on Bangladesh for the UN and State Department visited Bangladesh.

Accompanying him were directors of the charity organization "Love Share BD US," including Fazle Bhuiya Noshad, Zahid Khan, Zakir Chowdhury, and Ariful Islam.

They visited Dhaka's Pangu Hospital to provide financial assistance to 65 patients injured during the July-August movement.

They also provided Tk500,000 in separate assistance to the families of five journalists who died during the movement at an event held at the National Press Club.

During this time, journalist Ataur Rahman Kabul informed them about Rashid’s situation and the sale of his child to cover medical expenses.

Rashid's family was also provided Tk50,000 in cash.

Ataur Rahman Kabul sent this amount to the UNO, leading to the current initiative.
