Cyclone Dana: 604 shelters ready in Khulna

Arrangements have been made to ensure essential services like healthcare, electricity, and law enforcement during the disaster

In preparation for the impact of Cyclone Dana, 604 shelters have been made ready in Khulna district.

Efforts are underway to ensure that the shelters provide a safe environment for people.

Approximately 10 to 12 kilometers of embankment across various upazilas in Khulna have been identified as vulnerable, and the Water Development Board has been notified to take necessary preventive measures.

Arrangements have been made to ensure essential services like healthcare, electricity, and law enforcement during the disaster.

This information was shared during a meeting of the Khulna District Disaster Management Committee, held on Wednesday afternoon at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner.

The meeting was chaired by Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam.

Md Abdul Karim, the District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, informed that the relief fund has a reserve of Tk1,025,000, Tk400,000 for child food, Tk400,000 for livestock feed, and 707 tons of rice.

These will be allocated to the UNO offices as needed once people begin to arrive at the shelters.

He also mentioned that the four upazilas of Koyra, Dacope, Paikgacha, and Batiaghata have 431 shelters ready, with a capacity to accommodate 260,000 people.
