Three members of a family have been killed by hornet stings in Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh Sadar.
The deceased were identified as Maulana Abul Kashem, 55, the imam of Dudhnoi Bazaar Mosque, his eight-year-old daughter, Labiba, and his five-year-old son Sifat Ullah.
The imam and daughter Labiba died on Saturday afternoon while Sifat succumbed to his injuries later in the night.
Family members and locals said a boat carrying Abul Kashem and his two children was passing by a bamboo bush on Saturday afternoon, when they were suddenly ambushed by hornets.
This left the members of the family critically injured.
Locals rushed them to Dhobaura Upazila Health Complex, from where they were referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
On the way to the hospital, both Abul Kashem and Labiba succumbed to their injuries.
Though Sifat was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, he also died while undergoing treatment.
Dhobaura police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Al Mamun Sarkar confirmed the development.
