A 35-year-old man, who was set on fire while sitting in his front yard, died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Farhad Hossain Jony, son of Abdus Sattar of Moushadia village, Muktagacha upazila.
Quoting the victim’s family, Quamrul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Muktagacha Police Station, said two people suddenly appeared at their yard in Muktagacha municipality area and set fire to Farhad after pouring petrol on him around 10pm on Wednesday.
Later, he was rushed to Muktagacha Upazila Health Complex, from where he was taken to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday noon.
Farhad was living in a dilapidated house beside the remains of an abandoned royal palace in the municipal area.
Locals said drug users often gathered near the house and that Farhad frequently tried to prevent such gatherings.
“The incident is being investigated with utmost importance,” said the OC.
