A two-month-old girl allegedly died after being beaten by her father following a marital dispute in the capital’s Darus Salam area.

The baby, Sabiha, died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around noon on Sunday.

She was allegedly beaten at a rented house in Goiddertek, Darus Salam, around 7:00am on August 22 and admitted to DMCH the same day.

Mohammad Habibur Rahman, inspector-in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed her death.

Sabia was the daughter of Hridoy Khan of Boheratala village in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur. The family had been living in a rented house in Goiddertek on Mazar Road in Mirpur.

Her mother, Laboni Akter Jannati, said she married Hridoy about one and a half years ago after he divorced his first wife. Hridoy worked at a biryani restaurant.

According to Laboni, they were sleeping together on the day of the incident when Hridoy suddenly began beating the baby. She said he had previously threatened to kill the child and sometimes behaved abnormally.
Laboni alleged that Hridoy also pressed the baby’s neck during the assault before fleeing with Tk500 from the house.

She said the baby had injuries on her neck and cheeks. She was rescued and rushed to DMCH, where she died while undergoing treatment on Sunday.

Hridoy has remained missing since the incident, she said.

The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
