A four-year-old boy was killed and two other children injured after an old boundary wall of an under-construction building collapsed in Dhaka’s Shahjadpur area on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Mahid. The accident occurred around Thursday afternoon as several children were playing near the site.
Mahid was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead after examination. The two injured children received treatment at a local hospital.
Mahid’s family is originally from Bhola Sadar upazila. He lived with his family in Shahjadpur. His father Md Habib works as a private car driver. Mahid was the youngest of three siblings.
Mahid’s mother, Mousumi, said her son was playing with several other children on a road near their home when she was informed that the old boundary wall had collapsed on him.
A neighbour who took Mahid to the hospital said piling work had been completed at the site and foundation work was underway. The boundary wall was old and cracked before suddenly collapsing onto the children playing nearby.
Inspector Md Faruk, officer-in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed the incident and said Mahid’s body had been kept in the hospital morgue. The relevant police station had been informed he added.
