Former Member of Parliament (MP) MA Latif, representing the Bandar-Patenga constituency in Chittagong, has sustained a head injury after slipping and falling in the toilet of Chittagong Central Jail.
The incident occurred in the division ward of the jail on Tuesday evening.
Following the accident, Latif was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment.
Brigadier General Md. Taslim Uddin, the director of CMCH, informed Prothom Alo that a CT scan revealed some issues with his brain. The jail authorities reported that he experienced head pain after falling in the toilet.
He is currently receiving medical treatment.
It is noted that he had previously undergone open-heart surgery.
According to jail sources, MA Latif was residing in the division ward. He was also observed to be bleeding from his nose after the fall.
Initially, he was taken to the jail hospital before being transferred to CMCH for advanced care.
Latif was arrested by police on August 17 from the Bayezid Bostami Mazaar Gate area.
He was later sent to jail after being implicated in a case at the Double Mooring police station.
He faces a total of 12 cases, including one involving the shooting and killing of protesters during an anti-discrimination student movement.
