Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that those who did not want an independent Bangladesh are the same people who want to make the country a failed state now.
Pointing to the violence unleashed in the country centering the quota reform movement, Kamal said that this very quarter has carried out anarchy throughout the country, which was witnessed by the people of Bogra as well.
The home minister was speaking to reporters after a view exchange meeting in Bogra on Thursday.
These anti-liberation forces have vandalized the mural of the Father of the Nation and also attacked a complex where the freedom fighters live, the minister added.
He alleged that they have also attacked the local Awami League office, the land office, and the judges’ complex.
Regarding the Narsingdi prison break incident, the minister stated that the jail housed a number of militants who managed to escape during the break.
The minister stated that they looted a number of firearms from the jail and also attacked leaders of the ruling party in Narsingdi.
He also mentioned that three policemen and an Ansar member lost their lives while carrying out their duties.
The internet data centre, the metro rail stations, and innumerable vehicles were attacked during the past week, the minister added.
He declared that there would be no mercy for the offenders.
Asking why the quota reform protesters carried out such attacks at a time when they should have been thanking the court, the minister said that a judicial inquiry would be carried out to identify the attackers. He also requested that the students go back to their classrooms.
Mentioning that the government, as a last resort, enforced the curfew, Kamal said that the military has assisted the government in dealing with the situation. Slowly, everything will become normal, and there will be no curfew.
Earlier, the minister inspected the sites in the district that came under violent attack by miscreants in the past few days. He also exchanged views with law enforcement agencies and the local authorities.
