A deadly clash broke out in Madaripur where activists from the Chhatra League and Jubo League, along with police personnel, allegedly attacked quota reform activists.

Subsequently, quota reform activists vandalized a police pickup van.

The incident occurred on Thursday around 11am near the DC Bridge area of Sheikh Hasina Highway.

Clashes were reported in the Shakuni Lake area, near the Police superintendent's residence, and in front of the deputy commisioner's residence.

The clashes persisted intermittently until noon, leading to traffic closure on the Madaripur-Shariatpur-Chandpur highway.

During the confrontation, at least 10 police officers and around 50 others, including two journalists, sustained injuries.

Furthermore, one person drowned in the Shakuni lake, and three others are currently missing after fleeing the scene following the attack.

According to a District Fire Service official, amidst the clash, several individuals sought refuge by running towards the lake, where some fell into the water.

Two individuals remain unaccounted for. The deceased student found in the lake was wearing a school uniform, although their identity has yet to be confirmed.
