The hanging dead body of a ninth grader at Government Harchandra Girls' High School in Jhalakathi district was recovered during school hours on Monday morning.
Afia Jahan committed suicide by hanging herself with a scarf on a ceiling fan in a vacant classroom around 10:30am.
Her father is the assistant principal of a local school, while her mother is an employee of the Family Planning Department. An unnatural death case was filed with the Sadar police station.
Her classmates say Afia was disturbed by bitter experiences from her boyfriend for quite some time while also facing misbehaviour from her classmates at school. So, one of her classmates complained to the school authorities about her. In this regard, the assistant headmaster of the school interrogated her in front of her classmates.
Her parents also tried to calm her in various ways because she was not living a normal life.
School teacher Shamsul Alam said that in the morning, Afia went to the empty classroom on the third floor of Ganesh Bhaban and committed suicide. The classmates discovered her while looking for her in the school compound.
The teachers took her to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital, where the duty doctor declared her dead.
