Police have recovered the hanging body of an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) attached with the Detective Branch from a government quarter in Rajshahi city.
The body of Aminul Islam, 39, was found at around 3:30am on Tuesday.
Aminul served in the DB of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) and resided in the Helenabad government quarters.
His ancestral home is in Shibnagar, Manda upazila, Naogaon. Aminul lived in the quarters with his wife and their sixth-grader daughter.
According to police, Aminul’s wife saw his body hanging and called the police station. Upon arrival, officers found him hanging from a ceiling fan with a sari wrapped around his neck.
Police suspect it was a case of suicide.
Rajpara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashraful Islam said: “Aminul returned home around 11pm [on Monday] and went to sleep in a separate room."
Upon receiving the information of his death, police recovered the body and sent it to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem, he added.
“Aminul’s family from his village home has arrived, and an unnatural death case has been filed. The body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem.”
He further said: “Preliminary findings suggest it was a case of suicide, but the exact cause remains unclear. A thorough investigation is underway, and the cause of death will be confirmed after the police inquiry and post-mortem report.”
