Despite repeated warnings from the Tourist Police, locals and tourists are crowding at the Kuakata sea beach to take photos and videos of the waves crashing ashore as Cyclone Remal approaches the coast.

The Tourist Police are being forced to physically evacuate them to safety. This incident was witnessed on Sunday at the beach in Kuakata, Patuakhali.

During a visit to the sea beach it was seen that large waves are crashing onto the beach under the influence of Cyclone Remal, with tourists and locals capturing photos and videos. Some are even live-streaming the event.

A tourist named A Kaiyum said: "I feel scared, but I am enjoying it. Seeing the huge waves makes the trip to Kuakata worthwhile."

A local resident named Mubarak said: "My house is near the beach. But now, I have come to watch the tidal waves. I will go to a shelter with my family tonight. Right now, I am watching the situation."

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has asked Mongla and Payra ports asked to hoist great danger signal no 10 as cyclonic storm Remal now lies over Northwest Bay and the adjoining areas.

The coastal districts -- Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Barguna, Bhola, and Patuakhali will be under great danger signal number 10.

The met office published the forecast on its website on Sunday morning.

Cyclone Remal has now intensified into a severe cyclonic storm.

Meanwhile, the Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar posts have been asked to hoist great danger signal no 9.

The cyclone is predicted to make landfall on Sunday, affecting the coasts of Bangladesh and India’s West Bengal.
