The syndicate meeting of Jahangirnagar University (JU) has been postponed amid the protest for the four-point demand issued by the teachers and students following the rape incident inside the campus.
Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Md Nurul Alam confirmed the development to Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
He said the syndicate meeting was postponed as the students and teachers announced a blockade at the designated place for the meeting.
The meeting was to take place in the conference room of the new administrative building on Wednesday afternoon.
“The next date for the syndicate meeting will be announced later,” The VC said.
The students of JU have led several protests and formed human chains after a woman was raped inside the campus on Saturday by a Chhatra League leader and an outsider.
Several teachers of the university also took part in the protests demanding punishment of the accused.
They created a platform titled NipironBirodhiOikkomoncho and they demanded decisions to be taken about four issues in the syndicate meeting.
They also demanded the resignation of Proctor ASM Firoz Ul Hasan and Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall Provost Prof SabbirAlam, the trial of the rape accused, expulsion of the non-students from the residential halls and the dismissal of Mahmudur Rahman Jony, assistant professor of the Department of Public Health and Informatics, in the accusation of sexual harassment.
