A Netrokona court on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of Rajshahi district chapter BNP Convenor Abu Sayeed Chand in four cases filed on the charge of threatening to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Judge Mohammad Kamal Hossain delivered the order, directing him to be sent to jail.

Earlier in the day, with the assistance of Netrokona Court police, Sub-Inspector Ashrafuzzaman, also the investigation officer of the case, presented Chand to the court for questioning.

After questioning Abu Sayeed Chand in four cases over threatening to kill the premier, the court refused Chand's bail application and ordered his arrest.

On May 23 this year, Netrokona district unit Awami League General Secretary Shamsur Rahman Liton and May 24, freedom fighter Advocate Asit Sarkar, along with four others filed the case, making Chand the primary accused.

According to the case details, Abu Sayeed Chand allegedly threatened to kill the prime minister while addressing a public rally, organized by the district unit BNP, at Shibpur High School ground in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi on May 19.

"No more 27 or 10-point demand, just one point now – send Sheikh Hasina to the grave! We will do whatever is necessary to get Sheikh Hasina to resign,” he said.

A video of the threat went viral on social media, triggering a storm of protests among Awami League leaders and supporters.
