Prominent 45 citizens of the country have condemned the attack on four female footballers in Khulna's Batiaghata.
At the same time, they demanded legal action against the attackers, justice and full security of women footballers. This demand was made in a statement sent to the media on Thursday.
In the statement, they questioned how anyone got the courage to attack and throw acid on women footballers. In this regard, the administration and the police cannot avoid responsibility in any way.
The dignitaries include human rights activists Sultana Kamal and Dr Hamida Hossain, Vice Chancellor of Central Women's University Dr Perween Hasan, among others.
According to the case statement, some local people have long been harassing under-17 footballer Sadia Nasrin for playing football. On July 27, Nupur Khatun captured images of football player Sadia Nasreen while she was playing and sent the pictures to Sadia’s family and relatives with obscene comments.
When Sadia and her family along with footballers Mangali Bagchi, Hajera Khatun and Jui protested at Nupur’s actions visiting her house at Tentultala village of Khulna’s Baitaghata upazila on July 29 evening, Nupur and her family attacked them with iron rods, leaving them injured.
Sadia said the accused have been threatening her and alleged negligence by the police in arresting them.
