8 injured as oil tanker catches fire in Narayanganj

Five of them are in critical condition

At least eight people sustained burn injuries in a fire that broke out in an oil tanker in Narayanganj's Rupganj early Sunday. 

The incident took place at around 2:30am in the Shitalakshya River of the Dorikandi area of the upazila.

Five among the injured have been admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed a doctor at the institution. 

Upon receiving the news of the fire, firefighters from the Kanchan fire service quickly arrived and extinguished the blaze. 

Among the burn victims, Mohammed Rubel, 38, has been admitted with 45% surface level burn injuries, Sohel, 38, with 45%, Imtiaz, 42, with 30%, Imon, 35, with 67% and Humayun Kabir, 54, with 30%. 

All of the admitted burn victims are in critical condition, said a doctor at the hospital.

Additionally, three people were released after giving first aid. They are Rahad, 25, with 10% burn injuries, Rakib, 24, with 1% burn injuries and Nazmul, 33, with 1% injuries.

Akbar Ali, the manager of the oil tanker, has reportedly been unaccounted for.
