Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque said that the United States has not impose any sanction, they only announced a new visa policy to ensure a free and fair environment in the next parliamentary election.
“The US said that they will play a role in ensuring that the next election is fair, in the light of democratic values and in spirit,” said the minister.
The US authorities do not want a repetition of violence like in 2013, 2014 and 2015, said Razzaque, also presidium member of Awami League.
He was speaking at a Jubo League meeting at Tangail Shaheed Smriti Municipal Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Awami League leader also said that his party is not worried about the results of Gazipur City Corporation elections.
Dhaka Tribune“The Gazipur elections will not have any impact on the national elections. Many factors play into the outcome of local government elections like city corporations, municipalities,” he said.
“Gazipur had a fair, beautiful and acceptable election, that's what we wanted,” he added.
“We have once again shown the nation that fair, beautiful and acceptable elections are possible under the current government. The next election will be free and fair at any cost and acceptable to all. The election commission will do the election, the government has nothing to do here. We are hopeful that BNP will participate to the elections, and there will be fair elections in the country,” said the minister
Even then, if BNP wants to bring in an unconstitutional government by conspiring to thwart the election, then the administration, law enforcement forces of this country will deal with it, said Razzaque.
The agriculture minister said: “What the US has said about visas, there is nothing to be anxious about it. What we want is a beautiful election. It will be in Bangladesh in the light of democratic values.”
In response to a question, he said, surely a big election will have an impact. It does not mean that Awami League will lose the national parliamentary election.
“There are 300 seats, but we need 150 seats. Will I win all the seats? We can't win everywhere..
Different factors work behind it,” added the minister.
