A teacher's salary has been suspended for not being able to sing the national anthem in its entirety in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria.

Deputy Commissioner Md Shahgir Alam on Tuesday visited Mogra High School of the upazila and ordered the suspension.

During the DC's visit, he made various inquiries about the school and at one point asked the physical education teacher, Md Sohrab Hossain, to sing the national anthem. But as he could not sing the whole national anthem, the DC got angry and issued an order to suspend his salary.

He also said: “The salary will remain suspended until the students can properly sing the national anthem.”

As Secondary Education Officer M Abul Hossain was not present at the school at that time, the DC asked the upazila nirbahi officer to give him a show cause notice.

Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md Abul Hossain said he was not aware of the DC's visit to the school. But if the DC sees any inconsistency, he can ask for an explanation.

Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Angyajai Marma confirmed the truth of the incident and said that the DC went to Mogra High School and made various inquiries.
