The local administration has issued Section 144 fearing the deterioration of the law and order situation as the college authorities and various social organizations have organized separate programs on the same day to celetrate pohela falgun in the ground of Gofargaon Government college.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abidur Rahman said that voluntary organizations organized free eye camp and boshontobaran festival on behalf of Swapnachar Samaj Kalyan Sanstha at the ground.
On the same day, a day-long boshontobaran and pitha utsav program was taken up on the college grounds at the initiative of the college authority.
Section 144 has been imposed by the upazila administration in fear of deterioration of the law and order situation in the college grounds, said the UNO.
Gafargaon Government College Principal Kazi Farooq Ahmed said: "The college had already organized Boshontobaran and pitha festival. Later there are talks of organizing some programs in the college grounds in the name of some organizations. Amid this, the upazila administration has issued section 144. However, such initiatives have been taken in a planned manner to thwart the college's Boshontobaran and pitha utsav.”
The teachers and students are shocked because the college's arrangements have been thwarted, he added.
In this regard, Gafargaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Farooq Ahmed said that Section 144 has been imposed as multiple programs were announced on the same day at Gafargaon Government College ground. Police have been deployed at the spot.
