Physicians of Khulna have expressed their anger by protesting and condemning the announcement of the health minister regarding assigning responsibility to deputy commissioners of monitoring the doctors and health institutions.

The leaders of BMA (Bangladesh Medical Association) of Khulna expressed their anger in a press conference on Wednesday.

It was said in the press conference that doctors will not accept any conspiracy against them and they will resist it at any cost. This type of decision will lead to inhumane, harsh and cruel conditions, said the BMA leaders.

BMA Khulna President Dr Sheikh Baharul Alam read out a written statement at the press conference in the organization's building.

At this time, the General Secretary of the organization Dr Mehdi Newaz, Vice-President Dr Manjur Morshed and other BMA leaders were present.

At the press conference, it was said that the health minister made this announcement at the DCs conference in Dhaka on January 24.

Additional oversight by unprofessional, colonial-minded bureaucrats despite the presence of competent oversight authorities or individuals will lead to extreme chaos in the health system as a result of dual oversight, reads the statement.

“This is part of the bureaucracy's planned far-reaching conspiracy against the health system and doctors. We believe that the health minister has been misled by a vested quarter and indulged in a misguided attempt to confront the administrative cadre and doctors at the grassroots level.”

“Many times we have raised the demand to solve the crisis of manpower, infrastructure, equipment and medicine in health institutions to provide proper treatment to the patients and to arrange workplace safety for doctors and health workers, to establish profession-based ministries, and to prevent inter-cadre discrimination.”

The health minister and his ministry have always remained indifferent to all these demands. As a result of which mismanagement has been created, patient suffering has increased, said the leaders adding: “We also want to resolve this situation.”

In the press conference, they urged to withdraw the announcement of handing over the responsibility of supervision to the DCs.

In the press conference, the BMA leaders also came up with their several demands.
