Doctors, nurses and other employees of a hospital in Habiganj have fled the hospital while leaving a cesarean patient in the operating room as the health officials and district administration conducted a drive.
The manager of the Japan Bangladesh Hospital was given a six-month prison sentence by the mobile court as the hospital was conducting the cesarean operation without an anesthesiologist.
Additional District Magistrate Priyanka Paul handed down the sentence on Wednesday afternoon.
District Civil Surgeon Dr Nurul Haque said: “When having a cesarean section or performing surgery, a surgeon and anesthesiologist should be present. But at this hospital, a specialist named Umme Kasmia Jahan was operating without a trained anesthesiologist, assisted by regular nurses and midwives.”
He claimed that when the civil surgeon entered the operating room, doctor Umme Kasmia Jahan and the rest of the staff fled the hospital.
Ariful Islam Arif, the hospital manager, was detained at the moment.
Meanwhile, the civil surgeon has filed a standard lawsuit as a plaintiff against the hospital's owners and officials for a license renewal.
