Two days after the end of the first phase of the Bishwa Ijtema, the Gazipur district and police administrations on Tuesday handed over the ground to the organizers of the second phase, to be held on January 20-22.
Later, the pro-Saad organizers started working to clean up the field on the banks of the Turag River in Tongi.
The first phase of the three-day congregation of the Tabligh Jamaat, led by Maulana Zubair, ended on Sunday. Maulana Saad Kandhalavi of India will conduct the second phase.
Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman said all preparations had been taken to hold the second phase of the Ijtema without any difficulty.
Mizan, a member of the second phase management committee, hoped that the committee would be able to clear the ground soon. “However, various misinformation is being spread on Facebook and other social media sites about the second episode of the Ijtema,” he said, requesting followers not to listen to the propaganda that joining the Ijtema was tantamount to Bida'at.
Acting mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Asadur Rahman Kiran said around 600 cleaners and garbage trucks had been deployed to provide emergency services.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Molla Nazrul Islam said the security of the pilgrims coming to the second phase would be the same as in the first phase.
