Md Rashed Khan has been appointed political assistant to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on a contractual basis, with the status of secretary, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Sunday.
The appointment is conditional on Rashed Khan severing ties with any other profession, business, or government, semi-government, or private institution or entity.
He will serve from the date of joining until the end of the prime minister's tenure, or until the prime minister withdraws consent, whichever comes first, the notification said.
Other terms and conditions of the appointment will be determined through a separate contract.
Rashed Khan first gained national prominence as joint convener of the Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, which led the 2018 quota reform movement, while he was a student at the University of Dhaka.
