A landslide at Ramu in Cox's Bazar claimed the lives of four people on Wednesday, three of them belonged to the same family.
The incident took place on Wednesday due to a landslide in Lot Ukhiaghona area of Kauarkup union of the upazila.
The deceased are Azizur Rahman, 50, Rahima Begum, 45, Dil Faraz Begum, 70, and Nasima Begum, 25.
Kauarkup UP Chairman Shamshul Alam said that while the departed family was having dinner at night, the mountainside suddenly collapsed and all of them instantly passed away.
As soon as the information was received, the upazila nirbahi officer of Ramu reached there.
Ramu former upazila chairman Riajul Alam said that soil was being cut from that hill for some brick kilns built on the side of the hill. Therefore, the hillside was in a dire condition. This might have caused the landslide.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ramu Police Station Anwarul Islam and said that police arrived on the scene right away and attempted to recover the body with the aid of the fire service.
