A teacher at Barisal Collectorate School and College was suspended over forcing the students to drink too much water as a form of punishment for not completing their assignments.
The accused Manowarul Islam Mamun, a teacher of English Department, was asked to explain his actions within seven days .
"An inquiry committee led by UNO Moniruzzaman was formed in this connection. They are instructed to submit a report within the next three days," Manodip Gorai, assistant deputy commissioner Barisal for ICT and education, said.
5 students fell ill following the punishment.
The sick children's parents said that the students were physically punished for not finishing their homework even after they became ill and puked in class after consuming two bottles of 500ml of water.
The accused English assistant teacher Manowarul Islam Mamun, however, said: "The issue is not about punishing. It was fun, and I never discipline children; instead, I play with them.”
