Hearing on plea seeking suspension of Laxmipur UP chairman bail order Tuesday

Salim Khan applies for bail a second time due to the case number being wrong in the copy of the first order

Update : 19 Sep 2022, 02:13 PM

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will hold a hearing on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) appeal seeking suspension of the anticipatory bail granted by the High Court to Laxmipur Model Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Selim Khan on Tuesday.

ACC Lawyer Md Khurshid Alam Khan confirmed the development on Monday.

Earlier on Wednesday, the High Court granted four-week anticipatory bail to Laxmipur Model Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Selim Khan in a case filed by the ACC.

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Biswajit Debnath passed the order after hearing his bail petition.

On Sunday, the ACC filed the plea seeking suspension of the High Court order.

On August 1, ACC Assistant Director Ataur Rahman filed the case against Salim Khan for amassing illegal wealth worth Tk34.53 crore.

According to the case statement, Salim Khan illegally amassed a wealth of over Tk34 crore and concealed information of about Tk67 lakh.

Later, Salim Khan filed an application with the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the case.

The High Court ordered him to surrender within three weeks in the illegal wealth acquisition case filed by the ACC after hearing his plea.

On August 14, The HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Salim rejected his bail plea.

However, because the case number was wrong in the copy of that order, a bail application was again filed in the High Court on behalf of Salim Khan.

Later, a separate bench of the High Court granted anticipatory bail to Salim Khan after hearing the new application.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) applied to the chamber judge's court seeking suspension of the bail order.
