Police arrested a fugitive, accused in a murder case, for pickpocketing only Tk1,800 in Barisal.
The incident took place in a launch on Dhaka-Barisal route on Saturday.
Barisal Sadar Naval police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasanat Zaman said Mirzaganj police station of Patuakhali has already confirmed that the detained person is the accused in a murder case lodged with the police station.
Inspector (Investigation) Humayun Kabir of Mirzaganj police station has come to Barisal to arrest the accused Milan Sikder alias Ripon Sikder, 38.
According to Barisal River Port and Naval Police sources, Milon Sikder left Dhaka for Barisal with his wife Tanya on MV Parabat-12 launch on Friday night.
On the way, the wallet of Shahidul Islam, a passenger on the second-floor deck of the launch, was lost. After checking CCTV camera footage, Ripon was questioned about the matter.
To avoid arrest, Ripon introduced himself as a police officer during questioning.
Later in the morning, Ripon was handed over to the naval police when he arrived at the Barisal river port on Saturday morning.
After contacting Mirzaganj police station, police found there is a murder case in his name at Betagi police station under Barguna police station.
