The Election Commission monitored Sunday's by-election to Chittagong-10 through CCTV cameras at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka's Agargaon.
Voting started at 8am and continued without break till 4pm at 156 polling stations through electronic voting machines (EVMs).
Commission sources said over 1,500 CCTV cameras had been installed in the area.
Public Relations Assistant Director Md Ashadul Haque said no untoward incident had been reported in the election so far.
Five candidates are contesting the election – the Awami League's Mohiuddin Bachchu (boat symbol), independent candidate Manjurul Islam Bhuiyan (rocket symbol), the Jatiya Party's candidate Md Shamsul Alam (plough symbol), Grassroots BNP's Deepak Kumar Palit (golden fibre symbol) and Bangladesh Sangskritik Mukti Jote's Rashid Mia (stick symbol).
The Chittagong-10 seat fell vacant following the death of the Awami League's Afsarul Ameen on June 2.
The total number of voters in the constituency comprising Double Mooring, Pahartali and Halishahar is 488,638.
