Sunamganj-5 MP Muhibur Rahman Manik on Saturday said that he had received reports of five deaths in his constituency due to the floods.
“Among them, two, including an SSC candidate, died in Dowarabazar upazila–one each in Mannargaon union and Banglabazar union– and one child died in Jawa area,” he added.
The MP said that many more were at risk of dying in the floods.

Besides, a young man died after falling into the water at Hatkhola in Sylhet sadar upazila.
Sunamganj district has become completely isolated due to the floods. Water is also knee-deep in the district commissioner’s bungalow and Circuit House in Sunamganj.
MP Manik said that the condition of Chhatak and Dowarabazar upazilas in Sunamganj was the worst.
“Due to lack of electricity, there is no charge on the mobile, so no one, including the Sunamganj DC, can be contacted,” he added.
The Water Development Board said in a bulletin at 6pm on Saturday that the water level of Surma River at Sylhet Point was 89cm above danger level and at Kanaighat Point it was 98cm above danger level.
Although they have been flowing below danger level for so long, the waters of the Kushiyara River at Sheola Point have been flowing 49cm above danger level.
