Police have arrested a man and pressed charges after he tried to kill himself at the courtroom of a Chittagong metropolitan magistrate on Monday while a trial was progressing.
The man has been identified as Zafar, a resident of Sadarghat area of Chittagong, said police.
“Zafar had suddenly entered the courtroom and went near the bench of the judge while yelling he had something to say before taking a knife out of his pocket and threatening to slit his throat,” said Inspector Atiqur Rahman of CMP's Metropolitan Magistrate Court said: “
When the judge asked what he had to say, Zafar scratched his throat with the knife and gave himself a minor injury. Soon after, the police in the courtroom took him into custody.
Kotwali Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahidul Kabir said a case has been registered against the man for attempting suicide inside the courtroom.
