50 injured in clash over sacrificial animal meat distribution

Villagers engaged in a two-hour-long clash with locally-made weapons over the donated meat

A clash broke out between residents of Sunamganj and Habiganj over the distribution of sacrificial animal meat.

More than 50 people of Jagannathpur and Nabiganj upazilas have been injured during the clash that took place on Monday afternoon, reports Prothom Alo.

Upon receiving the news police arrived on the spot and brought the situation under control.

Locals said that a UK expatriate from Gotgaon village of Jagannathpur, Shaheen Mia had donated 35 cows to a local madrasa for sacrificial purposes.

The clash broke out between Shamim Mia of Gotgaon village in Jagannathpur and Ahsan Mia of Umarpur village in Nabiganj upazila over the sharing of sacrificial animal meat.

At one point locals from both villages engaged in a two-hour-long clash with locally-made weapons. 

The injured have been admitted to Jagannathpur Upazila Health Complex and Nabiganj Upazila Health Complex. Meanwhile, the severely injured villagers were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
