In Pictures: Holidaymakers dart home defying safety concern

With the Eid-ul-Fitr approaching fast, a large number of desperate people are heading to their village homes to spend the holidays with their family and friends throwing caution to the wind.

Many people, including women and children, were seen boarding the roof of trains using ladders in Gazipur as every train leaving Dhaka was jampacked with holidaymakers, our Gazipur correspondent reports.

Meanwhile, commuters heading home were trapped in monster traffic snarls on the two national highways. A 5km tailback was witnessed on both Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Tangail highways in Gazipur in the morning due to a mad rush of vehicles carrying home-bound people ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
