In pictures: Eid rush at Shimulia terminal

Thousands of homebound people flocked to the Shimulia ferry terminal on Friday morning, and the number of passengers and vehicles waiting to cross the Padma River only increased as the day progressed. In a bid to celebrate the Eid holidays with loved ones, people at the ghat were braving the summer heat for hours on end waiting for vessels, and traversing the waters on speedboats, aside from launches and ferries. Altogether 153 speedboats and 85 launches are operating on the route, according to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority.
