Showkat Hasanur Rahman Rimon, the ruling party lawmaker for Barguna 2 constituency, misappropriated Tk2.2 crore, meant for the implementation of a number of projects that were never done.
Barguna Deputy Commissioner Habibur Rahman said that they would recover the funds spent in the name of these ghost projects after carrying out an investigation.
The projects include construction of roads, mosques, tube wells and public toilets.
The allocated money was withdrawn in 2020-21FY, saying that the projects were completed.
In reality, not a single project was implemented.

According to the sources, the MP from Patharghata-Bamna-Betagi constituencies allocated Tk55,000 for the installation of a tube-well in 56-year-old Lina Begum’s house in Betagi Municipality. But she did not get any tube-well.
In a number of similar instances, the MP did not spend a dime and still withdrew the total fund allocated to him for the work.
MP Rimon told Dhaka Tribune that, to his knowledge, all the project works had already been completed.
