At least 70 houses were gutted in a fire that broke out in the Bakalia area of Chittagong early on Sunday.
The incident was reported around 1:55am from Miakhan Nagar Road, said Farid Ahmed, deputy assistant director of Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Upon receiving the information, several fire tenders rushed to the scene, and it took them nearly one hour to douse the blaze, he added.
The fire may have started from an electric short circuit, and the actual amount of loss caused by the fire could not be known immediately, the official said.
No casualties were reported.
