Govt appoints nearly 4,000 doctors from 42nd BCS amid Covid-19 surge

The doctors have been asked to report by February 28

The government has picked 3,957 doctors from the 42nd special Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations amid the surge in Covid-19 infections and fatalities. 

The doctors will be appointed as assistant surgeons under the health cadre, reports bdnews24.com citing a public administration ministry notice on Tuesday.

According to the notification, the newly appointed doctors will have to report for duty by February 28. 

On September 9 last year, the Bangladesh Public Service Commission recommended the appointment of the candidates. 

Out of the 31,000 students that registered for the highly competitive exams, 27,000 took the exams on February 26, 2021. 

As many as 6,022 candidates cleared the preliminaries while 2,000 cleared all the tests in March last year. 

In July, 2021, the PSC published a list of 2,000 more doctors who were selected.
