Six buses, eight people fined for Covid breaches in Bagerhat, Tangail

The fines have been imposed following raids in several places of the districts

A total of six buses and eight people were fined on Tuesday in Bagerhat and Tangail districts over violations of the government imposed Covid-19 health guidelines.

In Bagerhat, a mobile court fined six passenger buses Tk6,200 for exceeding the limit of carrying passengers, said Assistant Commissioner Md Rasheduzzaman.

Fines were imposed by assistant commissioners of the district Md Rasheduzzaman and Azizul Kabir under the Consumer Rights Act, during raids in different areas of Sadar Upazila.

In Tangail, another mobile court fined eight people Tk2,100 for not wearing masks.

The fines were imposed by Upazila Nirbahi Magistrate (UNO) Ranuara Khatun after a raid conducted at the Nirala More of the Sadar Upazila. 

During the drive, masks were distributed among several hundred pedestrians.

“The campaign to ensure enforcement of the health guidelines will continue,” she said. 

The government imposed the restrictions to tackle Covid as the country sees a sharp rise in the infection rate. 

The health authorities reported 16,033 coronavirus infections on Tuesday, taking the overall caseload in Bangladesh to 1,715,997.

As many as 49,492 samples were tested in the 24 hours to 8am, for a test positivity rate of 32.4%, according to figures released by the Directorate General of Health Services.
