A Cox’s Bazar court has granted police three days to interrogate the prime suspect in the gang-rape of a tourist in the beachtown.
Investigators pleaded for a seven-day remand for Ashikul Islam Ashik, who was arrested from Madaripur over the December 22 incident.
After a hearing on Tuesday, the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Abul Mansur Siddiqui granted three days, said investigating officer, Inspector Ruhul Amin of the Tourist Police.
Five other suspects are in jail now following remand, said Additional Superintendent of Police Md Mohiuddin. None of them have confessed to their involvements, said the senior officer of Cox’s Bazar police. The victim’s husband has named seven people, including Ashik, in a case file with the local police.
So far, seven arrests have been made over the incident. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested prime suspect Ashik from Madaripur on December 26.
