Narayanganj businessman hijacked out of 25L, 1 injured

A passerby was shot and injured during the incident on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway

Two businessmen were mugged out of Tk25 lakh by hijackers on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Narayanganj.

A passerby was also injured when the hijackers fired shots during the incident on Saturday, confirmed Siddhirganj Police OC Mashiur Rahman.

He said that at around 1pm on Saturday, Joynal Abedin, a money exchange trader from Araihazar, and his cousin Mehedi Hasan were returning from Motijheel on a motorcycle with foreign exchange money.

He added that the hijackers, who were also on motorcycles, stopped the victims at Siddhirganj’s Sanarpar area of and snatched the bag carrying Tk25 lakh while firing blank shots and fled the scene. 

A passerby was shot and injured and has been sent to Dhaka for medical treatment, OC Rahman said and added that a case was being opened over the matter.

According to the police, the hijackers most likely followed Joynal and his cousin from Dhaka.

Narayanganj’s Superintendent of Police Zaidul Alam said they are conducting drives to arrest the hijackers.
