Eight students, who secured positions in the waiting list of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) entry test for 2019-20 session, halted their hunger strike till November 1 upon being assured that their demands will be met.
The students on Thursday have been continuing their hunger strike for the third consecutive day on Thursday demanding admission against the vacant seats at the university.
On Wednesday, two of the protesting students, Milon Ali and Deepak Chandra Das, fell sick and were admitted to the Gopalganj General Hospital.
The admission seekers have been on hunger strike from Tuesday to Thursday night before the university main gate. Earlier, they submitted a memorandum to BSMRSTU vice chancellor demanding resumption of the admission process.
Dr AQM Mahbub, vice chancellor of BSMRSTU said they have called an emergency meeting of the committee on the admission test on November 1. “Decision will be taken on the matter after the meeting,” he added.
According to campus sources, excluding the ward quota, the BSMRSTU has as many as 444 seats vacant in 2019–20 academic year.
