The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a man for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter in Manikganj.
The arrestee Shariful Islam, a self-proclaimed mystic, was arrested from the remote Padma Char area at Basantapur Bagraigi under Harirampur police station, CID DIG Sheikh Nazmul Alam said while addressing a press briefing in the CID headquarters on Wednesday.
“During the preliminary interrogation, Shariful confessed to raping his daughter regularly,” he told the press conference.
He also said Shariful, who hails from Baraigram of Natore, separated from his wife some two years ago after he declared himself as a mystic.
At that time, his daughter lived with her maternal grandparents at Dighapatia East Haguria village of Natore.
“Six days before last Eid-ul-Azha, Shariful brought his daughter back to his house in Baraigram. Later, he started torturing her physically and mentally. At one stage, he raped the girl,” he said.
“At that time, even if people came to the house, no one was allowed to see or talk to the girl,” added the official.
At one stage, the girl was able to contact her grandmother. Later, the victim’s grandmother and mother rescued the girl from the house and filed a case with the Baraigram police station in Natore, he added.
Shariful had a case against him in the same police station under the Narcotics Control Act, he said, adding that Shariful has been being handed over to Natore district police.
