War crimes accused AB Yunus Ali alias Yunus Moulvi has died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The 73-year old man of Jamalpur Sadar upazila, imprisoned at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, was taken to DMCH emergency department by jail guards after he fell sick on Sunday morning.

After examining him, the on-duty doctors declared him dead at 7:12am, said Md Bacchu Mia, police outpost in-charge of DMCH.

The body has been kept at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy, he added.

On December 10, 2015, a tribunal in Dhaka sent three war crimes accused, including Yunus, to jail for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity in Mymensingh and Jamalpur during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.

On December 9, 2015, the accused were arrested from their residences in Mymensingh and Jamalpur districts respectively, following arrest warrants issued against them.

According to the prosecution, the accused were involved with the Razakar and Al-Badr Bahini, two auxiliary forces of the Pakistani occupation army.
