A woman has been reportedly gang-raped in Hajir Haat Gilabari area of Rangpur city.
The woman lodged a case against eight people under the Women and Child Repression Prevention Act at Hajir police station in connection with the incident on Sunday night.
Confirming the matter, an on-duty officer at the police control room of Rangpur Metropolitan Police said the names of the accused could not be disclosed for the sake of investigation.
Police admitted the woman to the One Stop Crisis Centre of Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Sunday for forensic tests.
Quoting the woman, police and locals said she went out of her house with a man she knew on Saturday evening. He later abducted her to an isolated place and raped her with seven others.
During the incident she fell unconscious. Afterwards, locals dropped her to her home when they found her crying at the crime spot.
According to the victim's family, the rapists gave threats of death to the family if they informed the matter to the police. On Sunday, the woman fell severely ill before she was admitted to the hospital.
