Police arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in a case filed for stalking a college girl in Gournadi upazila, Barisal on Wednesday.
The accused Ishan Islam alias Arif Miah is the member of the convening committee of Gournadi College BCL. He was also the former sports secretary of the college student’s union.
Confirming the matter, Golam Sarwar, officer-in-charge of Gournadi police station, said the accused was sent to jail following a court order Wednesday afternoon.
According to the case statement, the accused would harass the student of Barisal Hatem Ali Government College regularly.
However, on Tuesday evening, when the girl was returning home with her sister and other friends, Arif and some of his associates intercepted and harassed them.
Next day, the girl filed a case accusing Arif and 3 unnamed people under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with the Gournadi police station.
