A show cause notice has been issued against the general secretary of Barisal Sadar upazila Chhatra League for announcing his intention of suicide on Facebook Live.
The show cause notice signed by district unit Chhatra League President Hemayet Uddin Serniabat Sumon and General Secretary Abdur Razzak mentions that Ashikur Rahman Sujon went on Facebook Live from his ID and expressed various immoral intentions including suicide.
The notice said Sujon's act has undermined the image of the organization and requested him to explain why organizational measures will not be taken against him for violating party discipline in three working days.
Meanwhile, Ashikur Rahman Sujon said he went on Facebook Live out of frustration due to some financial crisis.
Dhaka TribuneIn that video, Sujon said his family was not the reason behind his suicide.
“I am happy in my family. I am in such a situation that I cannot even say anything to my wife who is three months pregnant The closure of my source of income is behind it. So I have to choose the path of suicide without finding any other way,” he said in the 11-minute video.
On the other hand, Sujan also put up a status that read: “Maybe I can commit suicide tomorrow? The reason will be written in the diary... O Allah please forgive me…”
He also tagged seven people of the Metropolitan unit Awami League and Chhatra League with the status update.
"However, a few hours later, the live video and status were no longer visible on Sujan's Facebook timeline.
When asked, Sujon stated: “I was wrong, and I apologize for my actions.”
