The students claimed that district unit BCL leader Fahim and his followers carried out the murder incident

Update : 10 Oct 2022, 11:05 AM

Family members and friends of three students of Jhenaidah Veterinary College, who were apparently killed in a motorbike crash, claimed that they were stabbed to death and the attack incident was staged as an accident.

A Chhatra League leader and his followers staged the murder incident as accident, they claimed two days after murder.

Police arrested two people in a case filed in connection with the clash.

Besides, seven leaders of the district BCL unit, including the main accused, have been suspended from the BCL committee.

However, no case was filed over the stabbing incident.

Three activists of a local unit of the Chhatra League died while being chased by a rival group after their motorcycle hit a parked truck on the Jhenaidah-Chuadanga road in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila late on Friday.

The deceased were Saidur Rahman Murad, 25, vice president of the student council of Jhenaidah Government Veterinary College, and students of the same college Touhidul Islam, 23, and Shamresh Kumar, 22, all of whom were activists of the student wing of the ruling Awami League.

Jhenaidah Sadar police station OC Sheikh Sohel Rana said he had heard about a factional clash of the Chhatra League in which a student of Jhenaidah Government Veterinary College had been stabbed.

“The three (Murad, Touhidul and Shamresh) were trying to flee the area after being chased by their rival group. They died on the spot when their motorcycle hit a truck as its rider had lost control of the vehicle.”

Murad’s family member claimed that he (Murad) was stabbed to death. The incident was not an accident… It was staged as an accident. Two students, who received stab injuries in the attack, are now undergoing treatment at Jhenaidah sadar hospital. They gave a statement of the incident.

The students, who escaped from the attack, claimed that district unit BCL leader Fahim and his followers carried out the murder incident.

Sajib, who is also undergoing treatment at the hospital, said that when they were returning to campus on Friday, a group of BCL leaders and activists riding on 3/4 motorcycles attacked them with sharp weapons.

“I jumped into a pond to escape from the attack. They also jumped into the pond to catch me.. Later, they followed Murad’s motorcycle. Being chased, they could not control the bike,” he said.

Md Sohel Rana, officer-in-charge of Jhenaidah Sadar Police station, said that initially it seemed like a road accident. However, it will be clear once they receive post-mortem reports.

A case was filed over the attack incident and two accused were arrested, he added.

The OC also said that it is true that a clash took place that night. It is also true that the victims were hit by a truck. Now after getting the postmortem report, it will be clear whether it was a murder or an accident.

There had been a long standing dispute between Sajib, general secretary of college unit student council and Fahim, vice president of district unit BCL, according to sources. As a continuation to the enmity, the attack was carried out on Friday.
