A 16-year-old girl was hospitalized on Wednesday with internal bleeding in Bagerhat after her alleged rapist attempted an abortion at home.
The accused, Sadhan Sarker allegedly raped the girl for months and when she got pregnant, he made two attempts to abort the child she carried. In his recent attempt on Sunday the girl got severely ill from excessive blood loss and was taken to Chitalmari.
Police are investigating the incident after detaining the accused.
The victim's father informed journalists that almost six months ago his neighbor Shadhan Sarkar of Barabak village in Shibpur Union had raped his daughter. She became pregnant but the family was unaware. Shadhan Sarkar is married and has a daughter.
Chitarmari police station OC Mir Shariful Haque confirmed the matter.
SSC examinee raped in Netrakona
An SSC candicate,18, has been abducted and raped in Purbadhala union of Netrakona.
The accused is Shimul Alamgir,24, a van driver from Budhi area of Purbadhala.
According to police, locals and case statement Shimul had followed the girl around for a long time and proposed marriage to her. She rejected him and informed her family, which infuriated him.
On Friday evening Shimul along with a few accomplices abducted the girl on a motorcycle from Mangalbaria area of sadar upazila.
They took her to Uttara area of Dhaka and raped her in a hotel room. Shimul then took the girl to a house in Narsingdi and forcefully married her.
The survivor's father filed a case against the youth under the Prevention of Women and Children Repression Act.
Police arrested Shimul from Shyamganj area and rescued the girl. She has been admitted to Netrakona Modern Sadar Hospital.
Purbadhala police station OC Md Tauhidur Rahman said: "The victim's father has filed a case and the accused has been jailed after producing him before court on Wednesday."
Garments worker raped in Ashulia
In Ashulia, a youth has been accused of raping a female RMG (Ready-made garments) worker,34 and was detained from Nayarhat Sterling Garments surrounding area on Wednesday.
The youth was identified as Sirajul Islam, 35 who is from Ramdhura village of Dhunat police station area of Bogra and worked as a woodworker in Savar.
From the case statement and police it was found that the garments worker and Sirajul had a romantic relationship for the past one and a half year. Promising marriage Sirajul had physical relations with her numerous times.
She became pregnant at one point and he refused to marry her, which led her to filing a rape case against Sirajul in December last year.
Kamruzzaman, SI of Ashulia police station said: "Sirajul was a fugitive in the case till now. He was captured on Wednesday afternoon and will be produced in court tomorrow."
