Police detained a 13-year-old boy for pelting stones at a trial train on the Padma Bridge rail link coming from Ishwardi to Rajbari.
The detainee has been identified as Ratul Sheikh, an eighth grader at a local school, said Somnath Basu, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajbari Railway police station on Saturday.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Padma Bridge rail link on October 10. Two stones were thrown at the train when the train was coming from Ishwardi on Friday morning. One stone hit the train and the other hit the glass of an AC compartment door of the train, which broke the glass,” said the OC.
The boy was later identified and detailed on Friday evening. He was sent to court on Saturday morning.
One year and two months after the launch of Padma Bridge, the train service will officially start from Dhaka to Bhanga via the bridge on October 10.
About 82km of railway from Dhaka to Bhanga will be opened on that day. The train service to Jessore is scheduled to start in June next year.
